Amazon and it’s microconsole ambitions

Rumors have persisted that Amazon wishes to enter the fledgling microconsole market. With their past success of the Kindle line, and their growing number of entertainment services, this seems like a wise move. Amazon could put out a $99 Android based console that supports their Amazon App Store, Amazon MP3, and Amazon Instant Video offerings.

Developers would need to do some work to make sure their apps transfer to the big screen experience, but I am sure Amazon will be there to help get this process done. But unlike the OUYA, Gamestick, or GamePop,  the Amazon console would benefit from an already existing app market with thousands of titles available, and those who purchased games for their Kindle Fire’s would own those games for use on their new Amazon console.

All of this would likely put Amazon in a much better position to compete against the likes of OUYA, Gamestick, GamePop, or MOJO. Only Google coming out with their own Android console would be a more formidable competitor.
